Lower neckline jumper is for all those people who do not like a high neckline.  Personally I dislike them.  I feel very uncomfortable with a high neckline.  To lower neckline jumper there are a number of options.  No matter if it is lowering the neckline on jumpers, sweatshirts or other stretch garments, the same methodology applies.

One option is to unpick the ribbing around the top.  If the ribbing is wide enough, it can be cut in half, joined and used around the new reshaped neckline.

However in this case the ribbing was quite narrow, so I opted for lowering neckline jumper using a contrast red bias binding.  Once it was attached, I topstitched using two rows of stitching securing the bias so it sat flat.

Always have the bias a little bit less than the circumference of the neck.  This will stop the neck from gaping.  Always under stitch after attaching around the neckline.  This forces the bias inwards.

Iron down then top stitch.

If re-modelling a garment, and the neckline needs to be lowered, lace could be used as an embellishment.  The seam allowance should be small 0.5 (1/4 in) or less.  If too much it will not curve.  If the fabric is a cotton or non stretch, consider clipping at the curved sections.

Before top stitching, press the seams and bias to one side.  Pin down and check it is sitting flat.

Happy altering
