Some tips are from yesteryear and others from my experience over the last 20 years doing alterations

Shorten peaked sleeves

This is a really beautiful dress.  But the sleeves are too long.  On top of that they flare out at the bottom.  The manufacturer put a small hem on the sleeve.  But it was twisted, and in my opinion did not look nice.  I decided to put a bigger hem allowance on the sleeve, but that meant I needed to do some tweaking to the hem allowance so that it would sit [...]

That means by the time you stitch down to the hem one side will be longer than the other. Happy altering Judith Turner

I used orange thread to show the stitching.  I am not saying there is anything wrong with this if the alteration is on your own clothing.  And/or you are in a [...]

Hussif Roll

This is a really challenging project to do, but a lot of fun.  I use my Hussif Roll whenever I go to sewing groups.  I have all the tools I need in the Hussif Roll.  I do want to pass on my gratitude to Martyn Smith who is now the Production Manager - Sewing at Echidna Sewing Products.  Martyn has always been very generous with his time in passing on sewing skills.  Thank [...]
