Blind hemmer machine

Semi industrial Blind Hemming machine

If you do not have the room for an industrial blind hemming machine, take a look at the one that I use.  It is called a semi industrial blind hemmer machine and sits on a work bench.  It is made from caste iron so it is heavy and durable, without taking up the space of a large industrial.

I purchased mine from a sewing machine provider in Brisbane.  To source one in your area Google semi industrial blind hemming machine and go from there.  There are some small plastic cased blind hemmers on the market.  I tried two once in my shops, but they were not as durable as this caste iron one.

They retail for around AUD$880.00 (2014) but you may be lucky to find one.

The only comment I have is that I would never put wool, very thick fabrics or even denim because of the thick seams on the side.  But they are brilliant for normal fabrics such as cotton, linen, polyester or any other such lighter fabric.

Sometimes I might have an order to shorten the length on 50 trousers.  Because I do a lot of corporate work, I would never consider using my domestic sewing machine blind hem.  I have seen some people who can use this feature with great results.  My problem with it is the unpicking aspect.  A blind hemmer machine provides a lovely, easy to unpick hem.  If it is locked off properly it will not unravel on the customer.

A blind hemmer machine is a must for anyone do a lot of clothing alterations.

Happy altering
