Common problems with trousers

There are only two main reasons that trousers will not fit.

1.  The cut of the garment

2. The shape of the body

In my book Trousers Fix 4 Common Problems, I cover the main reasons that trousers will not fit.  The challenge is working out what is wrong by looking at the trousers on the body.  Linda sent this photo in asking me what I thought the issue was.  Here is what I think.  Keeping in mind this is a photo from the back only. No front photo.

Note how the fabric is PULLING on the two bottom cheeks!  From below the pocket downwards.  Also note that the fabric looks TIGHT in the crotch area.  the fabric almost disappears into the bottom.  This causes the fabric at the back of the leg to be a little baggy, because of the PULLING in the crotch and bottom area.

How can these trousers be rescued?  Keeping in mind that we are dealing with a ready made garment NOT a pattern.  I would pull the trousers down on the waist to the hip area and see how it looks from the back and front with the trousers lower on the waist.  I am doing this not to decide that I want to lower the waist, but that I want to see how the trousers FIT around the crotch and bottom area when there is not so much strain on them.

I am fairly confident that the issue is a HIGH RISE both front and back.  That means the measurement from the center front and center back to the crotch is TOO SHORT.

NOTE - When a person puts on weight, the stomach and hips increase in volume.  This causes the front and back rise to tighten on the body.

So to fix this I would LOWER THE RISE.  If you would like more information on this my eBook Trousers - Fix 4 Common Problems is available and has 37 video links.  Currently on sale at $14.95
