Waist too big stretch pants can be fixed with a quick and simple method.
I have some old favorites that I love, which I repair and patch. One of my old favorites needs to be taken in at the waist, but rather than take band off, and/or take in at the sides, I attached some elastic at the back of the center back of the band.
Elastic should be about 3 cm (2 ¼") wide and cut into a 10 cm (4") stripe. (Or as wide as the band)
- Place a dot in the center of the elastic. This will be the center back seam position. The elastic will be stretched from 5 cm (2") into 7.5 cm (3").
- Place a dot at 7.5 cm (3") from the center back seam and secure the elastic.
- Do the same on the opposite side.
- Sew across the top, stretching as you go, then stitch the bottom.
When waist too big stretch pants, by using this method you can take them in around 5 cm (2").
If you want to have a neater appearance:
- Unpick the band at the center back sufficient to insert the elastic.
- Pin into place and stitch down.
- Close the band
Happy altering
