About Judith aka genie

I live in a beautiful part of the world - Runaway Bay at the Gold Coast, Australia. My son Daniel and his wife Amalia live not too far away, so that I get to see my 3 grandsons on a regular basis. Having operated 6 clothing alteration shops, I find working from home works for me. I am kept busy with clients, plus as a self publisher I personally complete all orders for my book Clothing Alteration Secrets Revealed. My goal is to help empower other people to feel confident altering ready-made clothes. I built this website with the advise of Morteza - developer of the Geelus POS software. Sewing is my passion through the medium clothing alterations. Happy altering, Judith Turner

Remove straps from shoes

Sometimes I get asked to do something that is not clothes alterations as such.  This is one such case.  My client asked if I could remove the straps from her shoes and turn them into slip on. I do not use a quick unpick when doing this type of unpicking.  I use a Stanley blade. Happy altering Judith

Sewing rubber backed fabric

Sewing rubber backed fabric can be a nightmare to do.  Have you ever tried used baking paper under the rubber?  It works well.  You could also use brown paper.  I haven't tried normal paper, but it could work as well. If the stitching was a straight stitch you would not see the baking paper.  It would peel off easily. Happy altering Judith
