Testimonials

I received my book today.  It is wonderful.  It is just what I was looking for.  You are so right about the difficulty in finding the right alteration books.  The two I ordered previously were nothing but on how to change the clothes you have, not fix them.  Thanks again.  Vanessa Calhoun, United States June 2009

Hi Judith, Your book arrived in the mail today.  Nice piece of work! I really appreciate the detailed and very clearly defined pictures to accompany written directions.  I'm anxious to get into it and learn all I can.  I can do basic alterations, as I've learned myself, and I have mastered the art of replacing zippers in jeans (my way), but there is so much more to learn.  I reduced a shirt from XL to L for my husband, so I guess there's hope for me!.  The Jean Genie looks like a very unique invention and I'll be watching the DVD tonight.  I also appreciate the commentary at the beginning of the book.  You've got the right idea, because you are connecting with people on a personal level.  Kerstin, Canada  22nd May 2009

Hi Judith, I received my book today (May 13th). I was so excited I walked 3 miles to pick it up. I own a small sewing business in which I have done custom drapery, roman blinds etc., as well as teach sewing lessons.  I am going to focus on alteations as well and  I am sure this book will help me out as that is how I learn - by reading and figuring it out on my own.  Some of our terminology may be different in Canada but I am looking forward to reading and studying your book.  Thank you. Debbie Seams Sew Right, Canada

Dear Judith, I got the book! I love it! Thank you, this explains a lot.  It will make alterations so much easier than just guessing.  I gathered from the introduction that you have been through your share of challenges.  I hope I get opportunities to help others too.  Thank you for your kindness.  Good luck with your endeavours.  I will keep you and yours in my prayers. Patty. USA

Hi Judith, Want to let you know that even though I don't encourage people to bring me alterations they still bring them!  Your book has easily paid for itself if for no other reason than I have said yes to jobs knowing that I have your book handy to show me or confirm for me the way to tackle the job.  It is my confidence!  My son tells people how I can sew anything, and picked up a job from his friends mum - 3 tops and a couple of pants in the space of a couple of weeks.  So that is how my book has paid for itself.  Thank you.  Emma, South Australia.  27th April 2009

Received my book yesterday morning, I had a quick look through it  last night before I went out, am very impressed, clear easy to follow instructions. Also guidlines for leg lengths in 3/4's, 7/8's and capri length pants is wonderful, was always unsure were these leg lengths should be! Hi Judith,

Thank you, I received the book today.  I have started a home based business doing sewing, alterations and repairs and even though I have a lot of experience with all forms of sewing, I feel uneasy about charging people to do alterations as it is an unknown area for me and it is not easy to evaluate my work without reference points.  After having a quick read of your book, I feel as though I will now have the knowledge required and the confidence to build my business.  Thank you once again and I look forward to receiving the weekly newsletters from the Genie Centre. Diane Langton, Victoria, Australia

*  Are you looking for ways to earn extra income working from home - fulltime or casual?

*  Want to know how to alter ready made clothes like shortening your own pant hems?

*  Have lost a lot of weight, or know other people who have, and want to save the wardrobe?

*  Would like to open a clothing alteration shop, but are unsure of techniques to provide a your customers with a professional finish.

I received this email 18th May 2009 from Jeanette in Strathpine, Australia.  I thought it may be of interest to you

"Good morning Judith A friend of mine gave me her book to have a look at.  I have always steered away from alterations but after looking at your book I would like to have my own copy.  Can you please advise what details etc you need and how I make payment to you"

Even experienced seamstresses buy this book, because alterations can be tricky and my techniques will have you altering in no time at all.

If you are an experienced seamstress, fully qualified in dressmaking, tailoring and all areas of clothing alterations, you really don't need this book.

This book is for people who have basic sewing skills, and would like to learn the secrets for altering ready made clothes.  If that is you, then read on...

    ****************************

My technique for pinning, preparing and sewing is simple and easy to follow.

The taking up and taking in technique means you will achieve the correct fit every time.

How about replacing a jean zip?  There are twenty one (yes 21) illustrations on how to replace a jeans zip.......  how to unpick - to putting the new zip in.  I take between 20 to 25 minutes to replace a jean zip (professionally). You can too.

All the alterations in this book can be done on your trusty domestic sewing machine.  And your domestic sewing machine can create a professional jeans hem finish.  It's all in the technique.  You don't need to use the thick thread to create a professional jeans hem finish.

You will become the professional with Genie Clothing Alteration Secrets Revealed.

The book "Clothing Alteration Secrets Revealed" is centered on a technique the I developed in my clothing alteration shops.  I wanted to offer a 100% guarantee to my customers on the workmanship.  That is a very strong guarantee, and one which created loyalty from customers.  What it required was a technique that could be followed by all staff, so that everyone was on the same page.
The step by step procedures and illustrations make the process easy to follow, and now mothers can pass on these necessary skills to their daughters or grand daughters, sons or grandsons. What a great gift idea for your daughter or son......  This book will stay in the family for generations.

There are sections on Dresses, skirts, shirts, gowns, jackets and tops.
I grew up with imperial measurement, and even though Australia changed to metric I have included both because countries like the United States is still on imperial. Personally I find imperial easier to use, so I have provided you with an explaination of metric and imperial.  Illustrations are also in both metric and imperial.

There is a wonderful bonus with the hard copy book.  It's called the Jean Genie.  This little device teaches you how to mark and cut a jean hem, and is then folded to become a valuable tool in sewing over the thick side seams on jeans, thereby creating a professional jeans hem.  All you need is your trusty domestic sewing machine - no industrial sewing machines necessary.

Bonus offer - Free DVD valued at $9.95 with every book purchased.  This DVD shows you the magic of the Jean Genie.  You will be sewing professional jeans hems on your domestic sewing machine with this wonderful invention.

The book has 236 pages which are two columns wide, 400 illustrations and is spiral bound so the book can lay flat for easy handling.
