Clothing Alteration Workshop Modules 2016-10-21T10:18:12+10:00

Clothing Alteration Workshop Modules make you the teacher.  Do you love to teach and train?  I have created four modules on the most important common clothes alterations.  Clothing alteration workshop modules have been designed to run for 7 - 8 hours.  Charge AUD$65.00 per person max 4 per class.

Module 1 - Taking Up

Taking up trousers and jeans is one of the most common clothing alterations.  There is a right way and a wrong way to shorten these clothes.  This technique is all about offering a guarantee on workmanship.

Skill Level 1 is imperative to complete before any of the other skill levels, because in M1 - Skill Level 1 you will learn

  • How to offer a 100% guarantee on your workmanship
  • What is the right length
  • How to pin correctly
  • Do shoes make a difference to length
  • What do you do if one leg is shorter?
  • What is the right hem allowance?
  • How do you stop a hem from puckering?
  • How to sew jeans on a domestic sewing machine and heaps more
Module 2 - Taking In

Taking garments in is a science, not a guessing game.  It is extremely important to fit the garment to the person's body shape.

Since we are all different body shapes, it is imperative to learn about how to pin, prepare and sew a garment.

The completion of M2 - Skill Level 1 is mandatory before going on to the other skill levels, however you can choose any of the other skill levels once skill level 1 is completed.

Most people tend to pin, turn the garment inside out and chalk the inside.  This will not give an accurate alteration and you will learn why in this workshop.

The Taking in Technique is unique and once you learn this method, you can alter almost all garments.

Module 3 - Replacing Zips

Everyone has favourite clothes, so when the zip breaks in a pair of trousers or jeans, they want to have it replaced. Learn how to replace a jean zip creating the same thread color, and in such a way that it does not look like it has been replaced.

The trousers could belong to a suit, which is all the more reason to have the zip replaced.

You will also learn how to stop zips from breaking, and how to repair if the slider is the only thing that is lost.

Module 4 - Jackets sleeves lined

Jackets are one of the more expensive items of clothing, and usually the sleeve will be too long.  This module covers the right length for a jacket sleeve, how to pin, prepare and sew a plain lined jacket sleeve.

It takes me 30 minutes to shorten a plain lined jacket sleeve.  You can too.

This module must be completed before higher skill levels, as this is the basis for shortening jacket sleeves whether they are plain or have a mitre like a men's suit jacket.
