Does this scenario sound familiar?  Going out tonight - Dress/skirt/top is just a little too wide at the bottom.

 

 

"I know, I will just run it in quickly".......  So this is what it would look like run in quickly...

I used orange thread to show the stitching.  I am not saying there is anything wrong with this if the alteration is on your own clothing.  And/or you are in a big hurry.  But what I would like to point out is that another 5 minutes would have given you a far better result and one that you would be proud to be seen in.

These next photos, I have unpicked a section of the hem either side of the side seam, and I have stitched all the way through.  Then I have turned the hem allowance back on itself, and stitched the hem down.  Now there is no fabric showing underneath.  It is a good neat finish.

 

It could be viewed as being a perfectionist.  And if it is then I am happy to call myself that.  A few minutes more will create a far better end result
