Shorten metal zip

Shorten metal zipper

When shortening a metal zipper, or any standard zipper (not open ended) I recommend shortening from the bottom not the top.  Over the past 20+ years I have seen most problems associated with clothes and sliders coming off the top of a zip is one of those.  Continuous zipper are the worst culprits as their is not stopper at the top and should the end of the zip come out of the garment, the slider could come off.

Even when the zipper is shortened from the bottom, a few rows of stitching across the bottom will not necessarily save the slider from sliding off.

So this technique I use is based on all of the reasons above.  My view is always that when a repair or alteration is done it should be done with the view that it does not need to be repeated because of sloppy workmanship.

Happy altering
