Rip in jeans

Jeans darning can be done in a variety of ways.  The method I use is to bond some Vizaflex onto a patch which I attach behind the hole.  I do not put Vizaflex over the section that covers the hole.  See video in Magic Circle for this method.

I then darn in the direction of the grain of the fabric, using a thread color that is very close to the denim color.

The photo on the right is of jeans with a reasonable size hole.

The darn eventually looked like this.  Tiny stitches have been created to give the impression of the grain on the fabric.  Going up one side and reversing down the next grain line.  It does create a thickness to the denim but from a distance is hard to notice the repair.

As I mentioned earlier to see how this was achieved there is a video in Magic Circle.

Crotch of jeans darned

One of my regular subscribers Sally from the United States sent me a photo of a crotch repair she did.  This technique is best used on a larger area and in the crotch or inner leg area because the fabric is softer using this technique.

The thing I would do differently here is to use pinking shears on the patch rather than over locking it because the overlocking will rub.  I would also stitch right on the very edge of the patch so it does not fold back which can also be very uncomfortable.  But the method is awesome because the jeans will last many years.
