Create a pocket from scrapes of material.  My mum loves pockets, and every dress she buys has to have pockets put into it.   Usually the dresses are too long, so I have enough to make standard pockets.  She wants two of course.

But in this instance the dress was almost the right length at the front, but the back had a drop, curved section from the side seam to the back.  Just enough that it annoyed her, and just enough for me to use the scrapes to make a pocket.

When only a few scrapes are available, convert your overlocker to a rolled hem and join the pieces together.  I decided to go with four sections.

Once the pieces are joined together, sew some elastic across the top.  The first pin from the end if the amount for the top of one pocket.  It is just over half the width.  this gives a good gather.

The final two pockets were attached to the dress

Happy altering
