Blind hems semi industrial plus ironing tips for those who are serious about clothing alterations. Shortening trousers without an overlocker or blind hemming machine will take more time. I remember getting my first large corporate job and I had over 50 trousers and 30 skirts to shorten. That was when I said, "Time to buy a blind hemming machine." I sourced the version I have now from Brisbane (100 kilometres from where I live) and have never looked back.
Two points to consider:-
- Purchase the caste iron semi industrial blind hemming machine. Not a plastic reproduction.
- I only use GRAL Continuous Filament Polyester thread. Made by Coats Australia.
I have added some companies you can contact to purchase the thread. 1. Hamlins - www.hamlinsacc.com.au they do not have a very good website for product, so go to the contact use and get in touch. 2. M Recht Accessories - www.mrecht.com.au and search thread.
Hope that is helpful. I found that the fishing line clear thread was useless and caused more trouble than it was worth, and I do not recommend using normal threads, as it might affect the tension.
It is a big outlay if you only do a few hems a week, but when doing bulk work it is a big time saver.
